If there is one animation film that has a special place at Müpa Budapest, it has to be Háry János. The 1983 film shortens the famous Hungarian three-hour folk opera by a full hour, though it also made history as a multi-arts production - János Ferencsik conducts the music of Kodály, while the film also featured genuine folk dancers in its production, takes an experimental approach to folk culture, and was created by true legends of Hungarian animation. Its success can only compare to that of Johnny Corncob (János vitéz), which - in addition to being a superb film - was also an inspiration for Háry János becoming the first feature-length animation in Hungary made especially for television.
