As a starter, the Baroque composer Charpentier's Te Deum prelude - now famously the opening music for Eurovision - will set the tone for the concert's further Impressionist music compositions. The celebratory piece will be followed by a depiction of nature, as Debussy, so adept at blending fantastic colours, conjures up various images of light reflected on the sea. Ravel was also a master of colour in music. In Bolero, he focuses on instrumentation above all else: from beginning to end, he gradually builds up the repeating melody with an ever expanding orchestral sound.
