OUM - One syllable. One voice. One woman.

Oum is one of Morocco’s most popular singer-songwriters. Her work is founded on the southern Moroccan Hassani culture – a sacred, poetry-centred musical genre – enriched by jazz, soul and afrobeat elements. Her voice already stood out at a very young age in the gospel choir she sang in (and she still often sings a cappella). She later tried her luck in the Parisian hip-hop and pop scene before returning to her homeland in 2004 to immerse herself in Hassani culture.  more

The distinctive elements of her unique musical world were already evident on her first album, Lik’Oum (2009), and she has continued to refine her sound ever since. Fusion jazz and traditional influences take turns in dominating her compositions, yet the cornerstone of her music is always her captivating singing voice. Her Müpa Budapest concert will feature pure, rhythm-centred and uplifting songs from her latest album, Dialddar.
