The culture of the Roma in the Carpathian Basin is extremely colourful and varied: Romany folklore is anything but homogeneous, with every community or group having its own distinct, unique features. The culture of the Lovari differs from that of the Boyash, just as the Sinti are unlike the Roma in Hungary or Transylvania. The dances are different in the Upper Tisza region, at the foot of the Mátra or in the Southern Great Plain, in Somogy or in the villages west of the Danube, and in the settlements of the Küküllő region or in Székely Land. The new show of the Duna Art Ensemble presents the different faces of the diverse culture of the Roma, mainly through archaic dances and music. Inspired by their poetry and visual art, the creators of this production focus on the spirit of the Roma, their passionate disposition, joie de vivre, vitality and distinctive societal arrangements.
This performance of the Liszt Fest is presented by Müpa Budapest as a joint event with the Duna Art Ensemble.
