The Amelio Trio was founded in 2012 by three young musicians then aged 13: Johanna Schubert (violin), Merle Geissler (cello) and Philipp Kirchner (piano). The secret of their remarkable harmony may lie in the fact that they have spent more than half their lives together on stage. Their international career took off with some notable successes, such as second prize at the ARD International Music Competition and the Grand Prize at the German Music Competition. Critics praise their vivid and expressive playing, while their repertoire spans from Classical and Romantic works to contemporary music. For their recital at Müpa Budapest, a new piece by the Swiss-Dutch composer and violinist Helena Winkelman – known for her stylistic versatility – is placed between Haydn’s good-humoured and Brahms’s inexorable trios. The work was written at the request of ECHO. With this programme, the Amelio Trio will vividly demonstrate how the tradition of chamber music can create an exciting tension when combined with the freshest contemporary sounds.
