Cimbalom Solos, Duos and Quartets – Improvisation, Folk Music, Classical Crossover - WORLD-WIDE

For the fourteenth time, the Müpa is presenting a concert that brings the spotlight down on the myriad possibilities of the cimbalom and the tárogató. As in previous years, those in the audience in search of novelty and surprises will not leave disappointed, as four remarkably successful cimbalom soloists will take to the stage.

Current events

Serving as the musician-host of the evening is, once again, Kálmán Balogh, internationally regarded as the leading master of the instrument. One of his favourites, and a former pupil, is the Moldova-born, Hungary-based Ivan Curtean, a musician of world-class calibre when it comes to both classical music and Romanian folk music. Bálint Tárkány-Kovács has achieved success in the pop arena over the past decade, yet he has not turned his back on folk music: in 2022, his trio released a Hungarian folk album entitled Cimbalomprímás. József Csurkulya toured the world as a member of the band Besh o droM before launching his solo career several years ago. In addition to classical and folk music, he also at home in the world of jazz. The concert will feature solo, duo and trio performances, culminating in a closing piece in which all four outstanding cimbalom players will perform together.
We can encounter the performers at the podium discussion before the concert – with the programme editor Endre Liber asking the questions.
